İzmir Weather
İzmir weather follows a Mediterranean pattern: hot, dry summers, when the afternoon imbat sea breeze takes the edge off the heat, and mild, rainy winters. Below are live conditions at the airport and long-term averages from the Turkish State Meteorological Service (MGM).

The imbat: İzmir’s summer breeze
In summer a north-westerly sea breeze blows along the Aegean coast; locally it is called the imbat. According to the State Meteorological Service, these summer winds typically reach 15–20 knots and sometimes more in the afternoon. The İzmir metropolitan municipality notes that the coast is usually a degree or two cooler than inland areas thanks to the imbat — which is why the Kordon fills up on summer evenings.
What to pack
From June to September, pack light clothes, sunscreen and a hat — average highs reach around 33 °C in July and August, and inland sites such as Ephesus feel hotter. In spring and autumn, days are warm and evenings fresh, so bring a light layer. From December to February expect rain on many days and highs around 13–14 °C: a waterproof jacket is more useful than a heavy coat.
Weather and flights
There is no published statistic showing that weather often disrupts ADB. As at any airport, storms, strong winds or poor visibility can occasionally cause delays or diversions; in June 2025, for example, a nearby forest fire and strong winds closed the airport for part of a day. On travel days, check the live flight board and your airline’s app, and see the best time to visit for a seasonal overview.
